On March 29, 2022, Council instructed staff to create an email public comment process similar to LAPS. From the minutes:
“A motion was made by Councilor Scott, seconded by Councilor Izraelevitz, that Council requests the County Manager develop an additional mechanism to collect written public comment on agenda topics and have it associated with the item for Council on public review”
No action has been taken. After more than a year, it’s time for Council to hold staff accountable for follow through.

Agendas come out Friday afternoon before the Tuesday meeting. We think agendas should be released Thursday afternoon, giving everyone involved an extra business day to prepare for the meeting. Email countycouncil@lacnm.us if you would be better able to engage with our local governance if they require the agenda to be released a day early.

Ask Council to establish clear guidelines and values for how they order items on the agenda and to keep presentations to a firm time limit. Items that will have lots of public comment usually happen after the informational presentations or after low-input procedural items. The material has been provided in advance, and a presentation that reads most lines on most slides wastes time and leads to long meetings.
